The Wonder of a Widow - Pt. 1

Happy July everyone!

I am happy to inform you I have finished my radiance sessions, and now I’m on the road to recovery. I have had drivers every day taking me for my daily 8:50 sessions, food delivered every other day, and random acts of kindness and gifts all along the way. June hasn’t been easy, and I’m ready for it to be over really. However, I can’t move on without giving a BIG THANK YOU TO YOU MY COMMUNITY FOR SHOWING UP!! Without you, I wouldn’t have made it through as well as I did. So, thank you!! When you call on community it brings unity. I’ve experienced it personally and it’s truly amazing.

July is all about recovery. They said it will take 4-6 weeks to fully get back to normal, so rest is best to restore and nourish my body well. This is the beginning of becoming fully well. In Jesus’ name, the cancer has been removed in more ways than one, I might say. This was just a bump in the road. So, move on over devil, ‘cause I’m about to bump you off the road. 🏎️

Now, let’s get to this week’s story.

Last month, I had a family from out of town that I love come by my house. As we were talking, one of them said this to me: “Just because Wonder Woman took off her cape, doesn’t mean she stopped being Wonder Woman” (quote from Junior Herrera).

I had been saying how I could not wear the cape this time around. I could not be the hero of my story. It had to be God, for His glory. Then, as I have been listening to the Bible through the year in my app, the following passage stood out.

So, I’m not going to talk about grace this month after all. I’m going to talk about, “The Wonder of a Widow!”

Let’s begin…..Part 1

Some time later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land. Then the word of the Lord came to him: “Go at once to Zarephath in the region of Sidon and stay there. I have directed a widow there to supply you with food.” So he went to Zarephath. When he came to the town gate, a widow was there gathering sticks. He called to her and asked, “Would you bring me a little water in a jar so I may have a drink?” As she was going to get it, he called, “And bring me, please, a piece of bread.” “As surely as the Lord your God lives,” she replied, “I don’t have any bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it—and die.” Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small loaf of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son. For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the land.’ ” She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family. For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the Lord spoken by Elijah.

-1 Kings 17: 7-16, NIV

A prophet was directed to find a widow and to extend not only his life, but the life of her family. It took obedience at every turn to get this part of their stories fulfilled. He asked of her in the most vulnerable area of her life. She expressed her concerns, and he reassured her it was better that she listen. So she did, and the bread and oil was multiplied again and again.

When something happens over and over in our lives in a positive way, a gain starts to be deposited within. Our eternal heart account starts to be filled up and up and up. She was getting sticks to make her final meal, and behold, a prophet came right to her to heal. Jesus saw this day coming, and these everyday humans were obedient to His internal promptings.

Part 2

Some time later the son of the woman who owned the house became ill. He grew worse and worse, and finally stopped breathing. She said to Elijah, “What do you have against me, man of God? Did you come to remind me of my sin and kill my son?”Give me your son,” Elijah replied. He took him from her arms, carried him to the upper room where he was staying, and laid him on his bed. Then he cried out to the Lord, “Lord my God, have you brought tragedy even on this widow I am staying with, by causing her son to die?” Then he stretched himself out on the boy three times and cried out to the Lord, “Lord my God, let this boy’s life return to him!” The Lord heard Elijah’s cry, and the boy’s life returned to him, and he lived. Elijah picked up the child and carried him down from the room into the house. He gave him to his mother and said, “Look, your son is alive!” Then the woman said to Elijah, “Now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the Lord from your mouth is the truth.””

-1 Kings 17:17-24, NIV

This party of the story gets me tender. I mean, she had already lost her husband, and while a prophet was living with her, her son gets sick too. Humanity can really bite sometimes. So, she went to Elijah and spoke candidly with him, and he did something about it. Amen.

This sounds a lot like our acronym on grace we talked about last week. He took action. He had empathy. The energy to prostrate himself over her son three times. All the things mentioned are in play here. He cried out and the Lord heard him. 🥹🔥🙌🏼 Oh how the enemy wants us to believe He doesn’t hear us. Don’t bother. You don’t matter. It’s a waste. Do you want me to continue the list of negative narratives he uses to disable us from our destinies?

Folks, once we asked God into our hearts, we are all prophets now. We are part of His royal priesthood. We have the same access, if not better, than the prophets of that time. There were limits in the Old Testament. The limits were crush by the cross in the New Testament, and we live under that covenant now. We have been liberated to experience this kind of manifestation of His presence daily if we are aware, intentional, and or maybe desperate enough to ask.

Man, this one is really stirring in my spirit. It’s all about LIFE! Life was sustained at the beginning of this chapter and life was revived in the end. She declared, “Now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the Lord from your mouth is the truth.”

Truth changes things in every atmosphere it comes into contact with. May you trust the humans that are speaking around you, for they might revived something that’s been dead or dormant deep inside.

Yeah, I’m in wonder of this widow. She didn’t get a name, but her story still remains. It’s not about our name or even our claim to fame. It’s His love that remains!!

Tune in next week for the next addition of the Wonder of a Widow. Amen.

Until next time,

Keep gliding 🪁

Abiding 🙇🏼‍♀️

& Smiling 😁
