The Value of a Happy Heart

Time and compassion restores a heart that is heavy burdened. When you take the time to talk with someone and show compassion as you sit and listen to what they have to say, you are making deposits into their heart. I call this a Happy Heart moment. When the heart feels safe to express its internal mess, it then feels freedom to get it out until all it can do is shout. It shouts, “I’m free, I’m free. Look at me, I’m free. Free from the burden of sin. Free from the burdens within. Free from the negative narrative.” In the Kingdom, there is nothing to be freed from but just to be-come.

“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”

John 8:36 NKJV

This reminds me of a song my mother use to sing:

Oh, there is therefore, now no condemnation

For those who are in Christ Jesus

No condemnation

There is therefore, now no condemnation

For those who are in Christ Jesus

There is therefore, now no condemnation

For those who are in Christ Jesus

For the law of the Spirit

Of life in Christ Jesus

Will set you free

From the law of sin and death.

Oh, there is therefore, now no condemnation

For those who are in Christ Jesus

No condemnation

For those who are in Christ Jesus

No condemnation

For those who are in Christ Jesus

No condemnation

“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”

Romans 8:1-11 NKJV

This is a hefty passage, but this verse in particular speaks to me: “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.” We have to set our mind on things of the Spirit.

“Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”

II Corinthians 3:17 NKJV

Connecting to the Spirit connects us to liberty.

Liberty means: 1.) the quality or state of being free; a) the power to do as one pleases; b) freedom from physical restraint; c) freedom from arbitrary or despotic control; d) the positive enjoyment of various social, political, or economic rights and privileges.

Where am I going with all of these words today? Here is my take away. To value a Happy Heart moment you must:

1. Be present.

2. Be able to handle the messiness of any conversation.

3. Bring no condemnation.

4. Become a person that allows someone else to feel seen and heard.

5. Know liberty and freedom is the gain.

6. Understand once they receive it and believe it, they can feel it. And the pouring starts all over again.

So, my encouragement is to be a Happy Heart healer, one conversation at a time. The more hearts you restore, the more everyone has to pour. Happy hearts affect the whole part.

And, remember you can always bring your cheer and smile from ear to ear.
